Juvenile Gr.1 winner by Zoffany.
The last horse to have ever defeated subsequent World Champion St Mark's Basilica.

As a 2-year-old, displayed an extraordinary turn-of-foot to win the National Stakes Gr.1 over 7f from a class field of seven subsequent Group 1 performers.

Also closely placed in the Dewhurst Stakes Gr.1, ahead of MG1W Poetic Flare.

Reached his best Timeform rating when a short head runner-up in the Prix Jean Prat Gr.1 over the straight 7f.

«Thunder Moon was defined by his natural class & strong turn-of-foot. His performance in the Gr.1 National Stakes really showcased this and his brilliance as a 2-year-old beating a field packed with Group one winners and future Group performers. He also came within a whisker of winning the Prix Jean Prat the following year. We are really looking forward to training his progeny in the years to come.»
- Joseph Patrick O'Brien, trainer

"There was no doubt Thunder Moon was being asked a big question after just one run - but the way he quickened up suggests he is a colt of the highest order."
- Timeform, further to his National Stakes victory

«He’s got a serious will to win - he just wanted to run by them. He’s a strong traveller and seemed like he was in third gear the whole way.»
- Declan McDonogh, jockey, further to his National Stakes victory

"He’s typical of a Zoffany, very relaxed and a lovely-natured horse."
- Joseph O’Brien’s representative Brendan Powell, further to his maiden victory

«The National Stakes looked the strongest juvenile race of the season and the winner is hugely exciting. The barging match approaching the final furlong took out a couple of rivals, notably Lucky Vega, but Thunder Moon was virtually stopped in his tracks as well. To recover from that and blast past a colt of the quality of Master Of The Seas, the eventual fourth, was breathtaking. Even accounting for Battleground’s absence from the National Stakes, Thunder Moon deserves to be the Guineas favourite.»
- Andrew Dietz, reporter on www.racingpost.com, further to his National Stakes victory

«It was a remarkable performance because he was in trouble in traffic on the inside and produced an impressive burst of speed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.»
- Graeme Rodway, tipster on www.racingpost.com, further to his National Stakes victory

«Thunder Moon did not exactly have a smooth passage and showed an impressive change of gear to exploit the gaps when they eventually opened.»

- Matt Butler, reporter on www.racingpost.com, further to his National Stakes victory
